This is a bit off thread but just wanted to check the theory. Wondows slideshow will enable the laptops with a small lid screen to display constantly certain information. Does that mean we can develop little screens with wireless receivers in to embedd into walls in houses so people can simply use a small wall embedded screen to check their emails, choose which tunes to play, and (if linked with IP telephony, bluetooth mic embedded within wall) make phone calls a-la Star Trek (sorry, not a nerd honest but only example I could think of!).
Think of career change :-)

Slideshow
Bill Gates show something similar at the CES convention this year

Did it work using slideshow? In that case it could simply be a wireless device using the same technology. Bill must have overheard me in the pub ... I'll get him and his damn big ears! Next he'll be releasing a broadband TV box ... oh no, wait a second ...

Yeh, with a device enabled with a screen on the front, then yeh you can write applications that work within that small screen. Some things that will be in there:
RSS Feeds that you subscribe to using Windows Internet Explorer 7. Certain websites will have plugins (on Channel 9, they showed Expedia) Windows Live Messenger Windows OneCare Live (when it's enabled for Vista, will show you the status) Windows Mail (Outlook Express - will show you new messages)
That sorta thing - things which you'd normally look at your phone for - time, date, new appointments :o)
Hope that answers your question!

im using vista 5456 and i want the slideshow setting to work properly in the sidebar. it only displays whats in the Public sample pictures and whats in my own folder, but.. it dosent show all of them, 1 or 2 and the rest are samples. ive tried moving pics into every folder possible but still nothing. its not a big deal but it would be nice.
Hah - If you want things to work "properly", stay away from betas ;-) Betas are, by definition, things that don't work properly yet.
The slideshow thing works in terms of showing pictures from folders you specify. Point to it, click the checkmark, and specify the folders you want. I know it shows JPEG, GIF, and PNG files. But I don't know about other picture types.

the next set of beta bits should fix the bug where you can't select the folder in the slideshow gadget.
